Principal's Message

Hi everyone!  It is hard to imagine a world like we are currently living in, unless it is part of a sci-fi movie or show! I know that this pandemic has not been easy on any of you, and has hit many of you extremely hard....from financial challenges, mental health concerns, sick friends and family and a number of other variable that we have all read or heard about. We want you to know that we are with you. We are with each student. We are with each sibling. We are with each parent or guardian. We have to be. Our society deserves and requires it.

With that said, all of our staff, from our custodians to our aides to our clinicians and speech & language therapists to our school monitors to our clerical staff to our teachers to our food service staff are ALL working hard to try and reduce any negative educational impact this pandemic may cause. If you are having any difficulties whatsoever supporting your child's learning from home, please reach out to anyone you have a relationship with at the school, and they will help to get the problem resolved. Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

I hope you all had a wonderful and restful summer. My name is Mike Voron and I am the new Principal at the Greenburgh Academy. I have been working in education for 18 years, first as a history teacher, then as a special education program developer and coordinator, and most recently as the Greenburgh-North Castle UFSD Director of Transition Services. However, my journey to become the principal of GA began well before my education career, as I am the older sibling of a brother with multiple disabilities including cognitive delays, skeletal-muscular growth issues, diabetes, epilepsy and bi-polar disorder. From the time I was very young, I was a teacher, mentor, coach, brother, and pseudo-parent to David. From these experiences, I have been able to truly “walk in your shoes,” making decisions as if they would also impact my own brother. I am happy to provide you with any support possible as you navigate the world for your child.

Our new Assistant Principal, Marc Samet, and I, have been hard at work over the last several months analyzing and assessing the school, including our course offerings, facilities, PBIS program, extra-curricular opportunities, and everything in between. The result is the dynamic environment that the Greenurgh Academy is transforming into. Some of the exciting initiatives include:

  • Revised cell phone policy and use of cell phone lockers
  • eLounge: video game stations, ping-pong, Foosball, and more, for PBIS rewards program
  • Literacy Wing: Social Studies, ELA, Reading and Speech and Language sharing spaces and collaborating in one wing of the school
  • STEAM Wing: Art, Science, Computer Sciences and Math sharing spaces in one wing of the school
  • Re-introduction of Professional Learning Communities, which allow for improved parent communication, cross-disciplinary lesson planning
  • Project Happiness: a holistic Social Emotional Learning curriculum
Just to remind you of upcoming important items, please see the list below:
  • Please make sure you have all your child’s medical files submitted to the school, including immunization records and his or her last physical.
  • There are new NYS regulations regarding immunizations. Please check this link for more information. https://www.nvic.org/Vaccine-Laws/state-vaccine-requirements/newyork.aspx
  • Please make sure you update your contact information. In case of a closing, delayed opening or school emergency, our ability to contact you depends on the reliability of the information you give to us.

We are all very excited about our new initiatives and hope you are able to come visit us at the school to see our students and teachers in action, our incredible arts and music programming and to experience the positivity that has enveloped the Greenburgh Academy. Please feel free to contact us at any time. The main office number is 914-476-1938. My cell phone number is 914-255-5141 and my email is mvoron@gncufsd.org.

With gratitude and appreciation,

Mike Voron
Principal of the Greenburgh Academy
