GA Holiday Brunch 1    In the midst of preparing students for Regents Exams and Common Core Testing, Greenburgh Academy took a day to relax and enjoy the holiday season.
On Wednesday, December 21st, Greenburgh Academy held its Annual Holiday Brunch for its students. Mrs. Peterkin, a clinician at Greenburgh Academy, and Mr. Extra, the Music teacher and band director, organized a wonderful event that set the tone for the holiday celebrations. Mr. Gomes was the M.C. while students and faculty sang, played music, and enjoyed each other’s company.
There was Christmas Caroling and piano playing to kick off the festivities, followed by a wonderful brunch of a variety of holiday sweets, including pancakes, sausage and eggs, and even Mr. Gardner’s delicious Jamaican Jerk Chicken. And for desert, there were danishes, fruit salad, egg nog, and Mrs. Doyle’s famous homemade pound cake, a holiday tradition.
Once the eating was over, students and staff began to display their talents, from singing acapella, to rocking out with Mr. Belluzzi. Fabulous solo performances were made by Leslie T., Alex C., and Treasuremae S.. The rocking sounds of Rusty Z. on the keys and the mellow sounds of Juquan P.’s drums dominated the music throughout the day. But it was Mr. Smith who brought down the house with his island sounds from Jamaica, earning him a standing ovation. But none of it would have been possible without the assistance of Mr. Extra and Mr. Hartung, who organized the music ensemble.
Greenburgh also continued the tradition of holding its Ugly Holiday Sweater contest. This year, the competition was fierce, from Mrs. Cosgrave and Mr. Wilke’s homemade attire, complete with blinking Christmas lights, but after all the voting had taken place, the coveted award was won by Greenburgh Academy senior Jonathan W.
All the students and staff at Greenburgh Academy would like to spread the love of holiday cheer and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah, as well as a Happy New Year.
