r. Camaj has been teaching English Language Arts at Greenburgh Academy in Yonkers, NY since 2013, but has been teaching since 2001. During his his tenure, Mr. Camaj has been the moderator of the School Newspaper, the Yearbook, and has been on the Middle States committee for school improvement, the Principals committee for curriculum development, has been a member of the School Safety Team, and has served as the junior and senior class adviser. Mr. Camaj has also coached Football, Basketball, Soccer, Track, and baseball teams at the AAU and high school levels. 

Mr. Camaj received his degrees and teaching certifications in English Literature, Creative Writing, and Education in English Language Arts at SUNY New Paltz. Mr. Camaj also received his certification in Physical Education at Manhattanville College, and is currently enrolled in the School Building Administration program at Mercy College.  

Week 1: Sep 7-9, 2016.
Introductions. Go over course syllabus. Have students complete a Student Learning Inventory Survey, and review the 5 Parts of a story.
Students should begin their I-Ready Assessment Pre-test.

Week 2: Sep 12-16, 2016.
Informational Learning Packet 1 on Healthy eating. Begin to review the 8 Parts of Speech, going over a Powerpoint and worksheets on nouns more in depth. Read and complete literature packet on Michelle Stimpson's "Two Sides to Every Story."
I-Ready days in class will be on Wednesdays. Students must sign in and complete 2 I-Ready lessons a week for homework. Remember your username and password.

Week 3: Sep 19-22, 2016.
Informational Learning Packet 2 on Fundraisers in School. Go over Powerpoint and worksheets on Pronouns. Read and complete literature packet on Michelle Stimpson's "The Price of Freedom."
I-Ready days in class will be on Wednesdays. Students must sign in and complete 2 I-Ready lessons a week for homework. Remember your username and passwords.

Week 4: Sep 25-29, 2016
Informational Learning Packet 3 on Television Ads and commercials. Go over Powerpoint and worksheets on Adjectives. Read and complete Literature packet on Michelle Stimpson's "R.I.P. Friendship."

Week 5: Oct 3-7, 2016
Progress Report Grades are due:
Introduce the Presidential Election coming up in the next month.
Students will read the nonfiction text about the Presidency, and complete a reflective essay on three policies that they would like the future President to do.
Pre-reading assignment on Freak the Mighty.

Week 6: Oct 10-14, 2016
Students will begin Reading Chapters 1-3 of Freak the Mighty, and begin completing their Study Guide questions.
Introduction to Vocabulary Words for Unit 1, Chapters 1-6, of Freak the Mighty.
Students will create flashcards for the vocabulary words, choose 2 of those words to create graphic organizers to aid them in using them comfortably, take a self-test on Quizlet, and participate in Vocab Basketball game.

Week 7: Oct 17-21, 2016
Students will read and complete study guide questions for Chapters 4-6 of Freak the Mighty.
Students will do a character sketch of Maxwell Kane.
Quiz on Chapters 1-6 of Freak the Mighty on Friday.

Week 8: Oct 24-28, 2016
Students will read Chapters 7-12 of Freak the Mighty.
Review Vocab words for Unit 2, Chapters 7-12 of Freak the Mighty.
Introduction to Vocabulary Words for Unit 2, Chapters 7-12, of Freak the Mighty.

Week 9: Oct 31-Nov 4, 2016
Students will continue in a debate discussing the 2016 Presidential Election. 
Students must complete the Reading Comprehension passages on the backgrounds of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
Students are to organize and participate in a mock election for who the students of Greenburgh Academy would vote for as President of the United States.

Week 10: Nov 7-11 Report Card Grades are Due:
Students will read Chapters 13-18 of Freak the Mighty.
Review Vocab words for Unit 3, Chapters 13-18, of Freak the Mighty.
Introduction to Vocabulary Words for Unit 3, Chapters 12-18, of Freak the Mighty.
Students will create flashcards for the vocabulary words, choose 2 of those words to create graphic organizers to aid them in using them comfortably, take a self-test on Quizlet, and participate in Vocab Basketball game.

Week 11: Nov 14-18
What is the Climax in a story? Complete powerpoint and worksheet defining what the Climax accomplishes in literature, and explain how Maxwell Kane finally telling his secret and facing his father is the Climax to the novel.
Introduce Vocab words for Unit 4, Chapters 19-25 of Freak the Mighty.

Students will read Chapters 18-21.
We will watch the movie adaptation of this Climax in class on Thursday.

Week 12: Nov 21-23 Happy Thanksgiving to your friends and family.
Students will finish reading Chapters 21-25 of Freak the Mighty.
We will watch the conclusion to the movie adaptation The Mighty.
Quiz on Unit 4, Chapters 19-25, of Freak the Mighty.
